📖 A SINCERE ADVICE: HOW TO REPENT FROM MAWLID

The season has passed. The festivities are done, the food has been eaten, the music has faded, and the gatherings have dispersed. What was perceived as a celebration is over, but the reality remains: the deeds have been recorded, and the innovation has been written.

تفنى اللذاذة ممن نال صفوتها * من الحرام ويبقى الإثم والعار
تبقى عواقب سوء في مغبتها * لا خير في لذة من بعدها النار

The pleasure fades from the one who attained its peak from the unlawful, while the sin and shame remain.
Evil consequences remain in its aftermath; there is no good in a pleasure after which is the Fire.

However, Ahlus-Sunnah differ from the extreme groups. We firmly warn against religious innovations (Bid’ah), yet we never make people despair of Allah's mercy. He is Ar-Rahman, the All-Merciful.

The Prophet (ﷺ) gave us immense hope when he said:

“Indeed, Allah extends His Hand during the night so that the sinners of the day may repent, and He extends His Hand during the day so that the sinners of the night may repent, until the sun rises from the west.”

(Sahih Muslim)

Truly, the door of repentance is open until the sun rises from the west.

If you fell into the innovation of Mawlid, here is sincere advice on how to return to the pure Sunnah, depending on your situation:

A PATH TO RECTIFICATION FOR EVERY INDIVIDUAL

For the Ignorant

If you participated out of a lack of knowledge, thinking it was a good deed, the door to clarity is open. Check the numerous, gentle clarifications provided by the scholars of Ahlus-Sunnah—may Allah bless their efforts.

Learn why the Prophet (ﷺ) and his Companions never celebrated this day. Remember the Hadith:

“Whoever introduces into this matter of ours that which is not of it, it will be rejected.”

(Al-Bukhari & Muslim)

Seek knowledge; it is your shield.

For the Blind-Follower

If you went along with the crowd, following cultural norms or family traditions, it is time to prioritize the Sunnah over society.

True love for the Prophet (ﷺ) is demonstrated through obedience, not innovation. As Allah says:

“Say, [O Muhammad], ‘If you should love Allah, then follow me, [so] Allah will love you and forgive you your sins.’”

(Qur’an 3:31)

For the Knowledgeable

If you knew the truth of this matter but still participated—yielding to desires, social pressure, or worldly gain—fear Allah.

You know the gravity of opposing the Sunnah. Renew your sincerity, ask for forgiveness, and let your knowledge guide your actions, not your environment.

For the Caller and Promoter

This is the most dangerous position. If you called to this innovation through your speech, actions, organization, or social media posts, your repentance requires an extra step.

You must not only stop and regret the action, but you must also clarify and rectify.

Allah says regarding those who conceal the truth:

“Except for those who repent and correct themselves and make evident [what they concealed]. Those—I will accept their repentance.”

(Qur’an 2:160)

Delete those posts, inform your followers of your mistake, and use your platform to champion the Sunnah.

The Conditions of a Sincere Repentance

To ensure your Tawbah is accepted, simply fulfill its conditions:

- Cease the action immediately.
- Feel deep regret for falling into innovation.
- Have a firm resolve never to return to it.
- Make amends, especially if you promoted it to others.

May Allah forgive our shortcomings, fill our hearts with true love for the Prophet (ﷺ) through adherence to his Sunnah, and keep us steadfast upon the Haqq.

A SUNNAH FOR WOMEN TO PRACTICE: WALK ALONGSIDE THE WALL 🧱

Shaykh Al-Albāni رحمه الله said:

On this occasion, I will mention something from the Sunnah—for indeed, reminding benefits the believers.

Our women today—I mean those of us who claim to adhere to the Qur’an and Sunnah—are, to a great extent, far removed from applying the Sunnah, meaning the Prophetic way.

For example, consider women during the time of the Messenger ﷺ. The roads at that time were not paved as they are today. A woman would leave the middle of the road for the men and walk alongside the wall, to the point that her garment and cloak would almost brush against it.

The walls in those days were not smooth like our walls today, mashallah. Rather, they were made of mud, wood, and similar materials. So she would keep to the edge of the road.

Today, women—mashallah… What should I say? ‘More courageous’? No, we should not say more courageous. I would say less modest than men.

A woman may take the middle of the road and walk among young men and other men without concern. This is not permissible. She should keep to the side of the road, whether on the right or the left.

This is the woman of modesty whom ʿĀ’ishah mentioned when she praised the women of the Anṣār for this noble quality.

Modesty is entirely good. Modesty is part of faith.

🚨 (O Preachers and Callers)

The callers to the innovation of celebrating the Prophet’s birthday have mobilized themselves and rallied around this innovation. So, show Allah goodness from yourselves by denouncing it and explaining that disagreement concerning it is not acceptable. Rather, it is darkness upon darkness: it begins with innovation, then progresses to major shirk, along with lustful sins such as reprehensible mixing [between men and women] and other such matters.

Warn people, and warn them again and again, so that Allah may guide through your efforts whomever He wills.

Warn even in communities that are generally safe from it—such as Saudi Arabia—as a means of prevention and protection, for prevention is better than cure.

Your families in Saudi Arabia see the world rushing toward it, so do not assume that they are immune from being influenced by it or becoming lenient toward it.

O preacher: Do not miss the opportunity tomorrow to warn against this innovation.

O Muslims: Increase the circulation of the lessons, clips, books, and articles of the people of the Sunnah that denounce it.

O Allah, grant all Muslims success in adhering to Tawhid and the Sunnah.

O Allah, make them steadfast upon them, increase them in guidance, and save them from innovations such as the celebration of the Prophet’s birthday.

A woman was kneading dough when news reached her that her husband had died. She immediately lifted her hand away from the dough and said:

“This food now has others who share in it” — meaning the heirs.

Then she said:

“So what is the matter with people who consume the wealth of orphans and women?”

📚 Al-Waraʿ in the Lives of Women (37/18), by Ibnul-Qayyim رحمه الله.

The story illustrates waraʿ (scrupulousness and piety): she immediately recognized that, after her husband’s death, his property was no longer solely his—or hers—but had become subject to the rights of the heirs.

A man wanted to divorce his wife, so he was asked:

“What is it about her that displeases you?”

He replied: “A sensible man does not expose his wife’s faults or disclose her secrets.”

Then, after he divorced her, he was asked:

“Why did you divorce her?”

He replied: “What business do I have speaking about someone who has now become a stranger to me?”

The saying conveys the idea of maintaining discretion and dignity even when a marriage ends—not speaking ill of someone who was once your spouse.

Does a Woman Sin by Wearing Shoes That Make Noise When She Walks? — Shaykh al-Albani (may Allah have mercy on him)

🔴 The questioner asks:

Does a woman incur sin by wearing shoes that make a sound when she walks?

📝 The Shaykh replied:

“How could she not?

Shoes with heels fitted with iron, or similar metals that produce an echoing sound while walking—this is essentially an application of a Qur’anic text in another form.

Allah تعالى says:

‘And let them not stamp their feet to make known what they conceal of their adornment.’
(Qur’an 24:31)

Today, this Qur’anic injunction is being violated—not in the traditional manner involving hidden anklets. Anklets, as you know, are ornaments worn around the ankles.

The verse is no longer being acted against through women stamping their feet to make the sound of their anklets heard. Rather, it is being violated by stamping their feet to make the sound of their shoes heard—especially high-heeled shoes with metal tips, as we mentioned.

We know that iron fittings are used for certain animals. But as European civilization developed—and became increasingly immoral—they began putting iron fittings on what they call ‘the fairer sex.’

Iron is something used for beasts of burden that carry heavy loads.

So, in summary, this is not permissible. A woman should lower her gaze, and her manner of walking should be one of humility, quietness, and composure.

Glory be to Allah! We have become very, very distant from Islamic manners, yet we claim that we want to establish an Islamic society.

My brothers, if we do not establish an Islamic society within our own homes, our neighbourhoods, and our villages, we will not be able to establish it in our cities, capitals, and countries.

She said:

‘May Allah have mercy on the women of the Ansar. Their modesty did not prevent them from gaining understanding of the religion.’

They possessed modesty, dignity, and gravitas; yet when it came to seeking knowledge of the religion, modesty did not prevent them from asking and learning.

Today, however, modesty has been removed from the hearts of women, except for a small number of them.

We ask Allah Almighty to rectify us, rectify our women and our children, and inspire us to what is right.”

THE WOMAN DURING THE PRE-ISLAMIC PERIOD OF IGNORANCE (JĀHILIYYAH)

As you know from what the Noble Qurʾān has informed us regarding the status of women during the pre-Islamic period of ignorance (Jāhiliyyah) among the Arabs, they used to mistreat women to the utmost degree, neglecting their rights and considering them as worthless chattels. They despised women and hated female offspring. As Allāh the Exalted said: "And when one of them is informed of [the birth of] a female, his face becomes dark, and he suppresses grief. He hides himself from the people because of the ill of which he has been informed. Should he keep it in humiliation or bury it in the ground? Unquestionably, evil is what they decide." (Sūrat al-Naḥl: 58-59).

When a woman gave birth to a daughter for one of them, and he was informed of it, he would be displeased by it, feeling ashamed before people, and embarrassed to walk among them because a girl was born to him. He would hide from the people because of the bad news he had received; then he would contemplate: "Should he keep it in humiliation" (Sūrat al-Naḥl: 59), meaning: should he leave her alive, while he is despised and she is despised, and bear that patiently? "Or bury it in the ground?" (Sūrat al-Naḥl: 59), meaning: bury this girl alive under the dirt until she dies.

And this is what they used to do; they used to bury daughters alive, meaning: they would bury them alive under the dirt until they died to get rid of them. Allāh the Exalted said: "And when the girl [who was] buried alive is asked" (Sūrat al-Takwīr: 8), meaning: the girl who is buried, the one who buried her will be asked about this heinous murder on the Day of Resurrection.

Likewise was their treatment of a woman if she remained alive and they did not bury her; they would treat her in the worst manner. They would not give a woman any inheritance if her relative died; rather, they would deprive her of inheritance, saying: "Inheritance is for the one who carries the sword and rides the horse; as for the woman, she has no share in inheritance nor any entitlement." They would deprive her of her right and strip her of what Allāh had given her from the inheritance of her relative; even if he was the closest of people to her, she would not inherit a single penny from him.

Among their ways of treating a woman if she remained alive: if her husband died, they would race to her, and whoever reached her first and threw his garment over her would have the most right to her, inheriting her from the deceased just as wealth is inherited. Then after that, he had the choice: either to marry her even if she did not want him, or to marry her off to someone else and take her dowry, or to prevent her from marrying—meaning: to keep her without marriage until she ransoms herself with money she pays to him. Allāh the Exalted said: "O you who have believed, it is not lawful for you to inherit women by compulsion. And do not make difficulties for them to take [back] part of what you gave them" (Sūratun-Nisāʾ: 19).

This was their treatment of women: either they would bury them under the dirt until they died, or they would keep them in humiliation. Meaning: they would not let her inherit if her relative died. And meaning: if her husband died, they would dispose of her as an owner disposes of his property; she had no choice and no control over herself.

Similarly, one of them would marry a large number of women without any limit or restriction; a single man among them would marry tens of women, neither observing their rights nor treating them properly. This was the society of Jāhiliyyah and the status of women in it, just as Allāh the Exalted mentioned in the Qurʾān.

The Status of Women in Islam

Praise be to Allāh, Lord of the Worlds, and peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muḥammad, and upon all his family and companions.

Some may wonder why this particular topic was chosen. Were there not topics more important than it?

The answer: This particular topic was chosen due to the suspicions surrounding it in our current time and because the topic of women is a critical issue in society. She is the foundational pillar for the offspring from which society is formed; if she is righteous, she becomes the reason for the righteousness of her offspring and her household.

The poet expresses this meaning, saying:

"The mother is a school; if you prepare her,
You prepare a nation of noble lineage." (See: Dīwān Ḥāfiẓ Ibrāhīm, 1/282)

The topic serves to refute the suspicions of those who have used women as a front to hide behind in order to attack Islam. They also intend to corrupt women so that society becomes corrupted through them. The enemies of Allāh and His Messenger, in every time and place, continue to spread corruption in the land to destroy crops and generations. Therefore, the topic of women has become an important issue that requires attention—clarifying her status in Islam so that the fog created by the propaganda of those who mislead may dissipate.

Furthermore, women and issues concerning them have become the talk of the town at this time. Radio stations mostly address the topic of women and focus on it, as do newspapers and magazines, and, through that, many suspicions arise that might deceive the naive or the ignorant. In reviewing the history of women throughout time, her status in Islam becomes distinctly clear to us, and indeed, in all divine religions.

Why do some women not experience the sweetness of Īmān, the delight of obedience, and the effect of worship?

The Prophet ﷺ said:

"A woman will not find the sweetness of faith until she fulfills the rights of her husband."

(Ṣaḥīḥut-Targhīb, no. 1939)

WHAT ARE SOME OF HIS RIGHTS?

The wife of Saʿīd ibnul-Musayyib (may Allah have mercy on them both) said:

"We would not speak to our husbands except as you speak to your rulers."

(Ḥilyatul-Awliyāʾ, 5/168)

This reflects the reverence and high status a husband holds in the heart of a righteous wife.

The Prophet ﷺ said to a female Companion:

"Do you have a husband?"

She replied, "Yes."

He asked:

"How are you with him?"

She answered:

"I do not fall short regarding him," meaning, "I do not neglect obedience to him."

He then said:

"Consider carefully where you stand with him, for he is your Paradise or your Hellfire."

(Ṣaḥīḥut-Targhīb, no. 1933)

Meaning, obedience to him is your path to Paradise, while disobedience to him is your path to the Fire.

Ibn ʿAbbās (may Allah be pleased with them both), the Interpreter of the Qur'an, said regarding the words of Allah:

"So righteous women are devoutly obedient, guarding in the husband's absence..." (Qur'an 4:34)

He explained:

"Devoutly obedient" means obedient to their husbands.

He did not merely say "obedient," because qunūt signifies complete and earnest obedience.

How does a wife know that she is righteous and obedient?

"When he looks at her, she pleases him; when he commands her, she obeys him; if he swears an oath, she fulfills it; and when he is absent, she safeguards herself and his wealth."

When he is away, she knows what displeases him and refrains from it. She neither goes out nor behaves in ways that he dislikes—whether little or much.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

"Shall I not inform you of your women in Paradise? They are loving and fertile. When she becomes angry, is wronged, or her husband becomes angry with her, she says: 'Here is my hand in yours; I will not sleep until you are pleased.'"

(Ṣaḥīḥut-Targhīb, no. 1941)

Not like some women who abandon the marital bed, leave with their children, or occupy themselves with phone calls, messages, and the like.

A righteous woman remembers the saying of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ:

"Allah does not look at a woman who is ungrateful to her husband."

(Al-Silsilatuṣ-Ṣaḥīḥah, 1/581)

She also keeps in mind his saying ﷺ:

"If I were to command anyone to prostrate to another, I would have commanded a woman to prostrate to her husband."

(Sunan Abī Dāwūd 2140)

Therefore, she does not act arrogantly toward him, for the preference granted to him is from Allah alone, so she responds to and complies with his commands.

A righteous woman fears for herself, for the acceptance of her deeds is tied to her husband's pleasure.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

"A woman does not fulfill the right of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, until she fulfills all the rights of her husband."

(Ṣaḥīḥut-Targhīb, no. 1943)

Notice the word "all."

He ﷺ also warned:

"There are two whose prayers do not rise above their heads: a runaway slave until he returns to his master, and a woman who has disobeyed her husband until she returns."

(Ṣaḥīḥut-Targhīb, no. 1948)

Advice to Sisters: Continue with Ṭalab al-ʿIlm!

https://t.me/OmAbdillahAlBritaniyya

The things that keep us busy from ṭalab al-ʿilm are always going to be there. We’re women.
• Prepare the meal before I leave so it’s easier when I come back.
• Is the house tidy?
• Make sure the children are clean and fed.

Leaving the house and going to seek ʿilm is easier for the men than it is for us, in a way. We have different responsibilities; however, we should not allow them to prevent us from ṭalab al-ʿilm.

Whether we’re single, then get married and stop studying…

Or whether we’re not working now, and we find a ḥalāl job and start a small business… then stop ṭalab al-ʿilm.

Or we have a baby… now no ṭalab al-ʿilm.

Some just become pregnant… then they stop.

Continuing to seek knowledge is necessary for us to grow. This is how we grow in the dīn.

The “duʿāt” who only go out to study for one year and then start teaching—years later, you see them at the same level, while the people they used to teach come back, correct them, and have more knowledge.

It shows they didn’t grow.

We should always try to grow and improve ourselves. Why?

Because the more we grow in knowledge, the more money we make? No.

Because the more we grow in knowledge, the more fame we get? No.

The more we grow in knowledge, the closer we are to Allāh ﷻ, the more taqwā we have, and the more istiqāmah we have.

When trials come, we’re stronger and have a better ability to deal with whatever comes our way.

Some stop studying when fitnah comes their way…

We should not stop—not for this or that, not for good reasons or bad reasons.

Ṭalab al-ʿilm helps us get through difficult times.

Teaching Muṣṭalaḥ al-Ḥadīth during the war in Dammāj, and preparing lessons in a bunker — it helped Shaykha a great deal.

Even in times of difficulty, continue with ṭalab al-ʿilm.

During the attack on Dammāj, Shaykh Yaḥyā continued teaching the three major lessons over the loudspeaker. The continuity and the rāḥah (ease) gave them so much relief.

By Allāh, the ease used to come, as even the Rāfiḍah would stop launching missiles when the lessons were on. Subḥānallāh!

(They weren’t listening; it’s just that, by Allāh, they would stop.)

It’s our rāḥah. No matter what we go through—good or bad—it’s our anchor that keeps us steady, gives us peace and tranquillity in our lives, and keeps us focused on why we are here and what we are doing.

As Shaykh Muqbil’s daughter used to say:
“Whether we have one child or ten children…”

We continue with ṭalab al-ʿilm.

📩 A MESSAGE TO MUSLIM WOMEN

Shaykh Ṣāliḥ al-Fawzān (may Allah preserve him) said:

"Women also include believers, female callers to Allah (dāʿiyāt), and those who enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong. This responsibility is not exclusive to men.

So women should pay attention to this and begin with their own homes—with their daughters and their children—starting with them and raising them upon obedience (to Allah)."
