The US lifted oil sanctions on Iran - DW

📍The Trump administration officially suspended oil sanctions against Iran for two months, allowing Tehran to openly sell oil until August 21. The decision comes amid ongoing US-Iran talks in Switzerland and could generate approximately $10 billion in additional revenue for Iran during this period.

📍This is the first time since the 1990s that Iran has been able to openly export oil without US restrictions. Previously, Tehran mainly sold crude to China at significant discounts, circumventing sanctions.

📍The easing of sanctions came a week after Trump had previously announced the lifting of a two-month naval blockade of Iranian ports. Vice President J.D. Vance stated that the previous sanctions had been poorly implemented and had not prevented Iranian oil supplies to China.

📍The lifting of restrictions was part of a broader deal aimed at Iran giving up highly enriched uranium after signing a memorandum ending the nearly four-month war.
