THE NEGATIVE EFFECT OF DRINKING WHILE STANDING

Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyya (may ALLĀH have mercy on him) said,

"Drinking whilst standing has numerous negative effects, one of which is that it does not fully quench the thirst and does not settle in the stomach so that the liver can distribute the nutrients to other parts of the body. Rather it comes to the stomach with speed and force, and there is the fear that it will cause a chill or disturbance, and may pass quickly to the lower parts of the body without moving gradually. All of that is harmful to the drinker, but if he does it occasionally or in the case of need, it will not harm him..."

THERE IS REMEDY FOR EVERY DISEASE

Ibn al-Qayyim (may ALLĀH have mercy on him) said:

"The words of the Prophet (ﷺ):

For every disease there is a remedy,

• give hope to the sick person,

• and motivate the doctor,

• and they encourage us to seek that remedy and look for it."

DIFFERENT WAYS TO SUPPORT A FELLOW MUSLIM

Ibn al-Qayyim (may ALLĀH have mercy on him) said:

"There are different ways of supporting a fellow believer:

- with one's wealth,

- with one’s position of authority or power,

- by means of physical service,

- by offering sincere advice and guidance,

- by making supplication (du'ā) and asking for forgiveness for them, and

- by feeling their pain.

The level of one's support will be affected by the level of one's faith. The weaker a person's faith, the weaker his support will be; the stronger the faith, the stronger the support.

The Messenger of ALLĀH (ﷺ) was the greatest of all people in his support for his companions, so the more closely his followers follow him, the greater will be their support for their fellow-believers."

THE WISDOM BEHIND THE CRY OF A CHILD AND ITS BENEFITS

Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah (may ALLĀH have mercy on him) said:

"Think about the wisdom of ALLĀH in causing children to cry a lot, and the benefits that that brings to them. The doctors and naturalists have attested to the benefits of that and the wisdom behind it. They said: 'There is moisture in children's brains which, if it were to remain in their brains, would cause a great deal of harm. So crying draws that moisture out and drains it from their brains, which makes them stronger and healthier.'

Moreover, crying and yelling widens the breathing passages and veins, and strengthens them, and it strengthens the nerves.

How greatly do children benefit from the crying and yelling that we hear from them.

If this is the wisdom with regard to crying that is caused by pain and the wisdom behind this never crossed your mind, the same applies to the suffering of children and its causes and good consequences.  There is a great deal of wisdom that may be hidden from most of the people and they are greatly confused about it.

HOW TO DEAL WITH AN UNPRODUCTIVE COMPANION

Ibn al-Qayyim (may ALLĀH have mercy on him) said:

"Know that the greatest of losses is for you to be preoccupied with one who will bring you nothing but a loss in your time with ALLĀH – the Mighty and Majestic – and being cut off from HIM, wasting your time with the person, weakening of your energy, and the dispersing of your resolve.

So, if you are tested with this – and you must be tested with this – deal with him according to how ALLĀH would wish, and be patient with him as much as possible. Get closer to ALLĀH and HIS Pleasure by way of this person, and make your getting together with him something to benefit from, not something to incur a loss from. Be with him as if you are a man who is on a road who was stopped by another man, who then asks you to take him on your journey. Make sure that you are the one who gives him a ride, and that he is not the one giving you the ride. If he refuses, and there is nothing to gain from travelling with him, do not stop for him, bid him farewell, and do not even turn back to look at him, as he is a highway robber, regardless of who he really is.

So, save your heart, be wary of how you spend your days and nights, and do not let the Sun set before you arrive at your destination."

THE RUIN OF THE HEART

Ibn al-Qayyim (may ALLĀH have mercy on him) said:

"So just as the heavens and the earth – were there to be a Lord besides HIM in them, The Glorious, then they would have become ruined, as HE, The Most High, said:

لَوْ كَانَ فِيهِمَا آلِهَةٌ إِلَّا اللَّهُ لَفَسَدَتَا
Had there been therein (the heavens and the earth) gods besides ALLĀH, then surely they both would have been ruined. (21:22)

Then likewise is the heart, if there is something in it that is worshipped other than ALLĀH, The Most High, it would become ruined with a ruination whose rectification could not be anticipated except if that which is worshipped ˹besides HIM˺ is removed from it, and that ALLĀH, The Most High, alone is its Lord and that which it worships, that it loves HIM and hopes in HIM and fears HIM and relies upon HIM and turns to HIM repentantly and obediently."

TIMES WHEN DEEDS ARE TAKEN UP

Ibn al-Qayyim (may ALLĀH have mercy on him) said:

"The deeds of the year are taken up in Sha'bān, as the truthful one (the Prophet ﷺ) has told us.

The deeds of the week are shown on Monday and Thursday.

The deeds of the day are taken up at the end of the day before night comes, and the deeds of the night are taken up at the end of the night, before day comes.

When a person's life comes to an end, all his life's deeds are taken up and the record of his deeds is closed."

THE HAPPINESS OF THE HEART

Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah (may ALLĀH have mercy on him) said:

"The heart was created to acquire knowledge of its Creator and to love HIM, worship HIM Alone, be content with HIM, to be joyous loving HIM and to feel satisfied with HIM.

The heart was also created to rely on ALLĀH, to love for HIS Sake, hate for HIS Sake, to be loyal for HIS Sake, to be enemy of HIS enemies for HIS Sake and to remember HIM always.

The heart was created to love HIM more than anyone or anything else, to have Hope in HIM rather than anyone or anything else and to revere HIM more than anything or anyone else.

There is no joy, happiness, delight or sweetness except by acquiring such qualities, which are just like food, good health and life for the heart. When the heart looses its food, health and life, then sadness, grief and affliction will attack it from all sides and will remain with it.

The worst diseases that attack the heart are Shirk (polytheism, making partners with ALLĀH), sins, and forgetfulness, ignoring what ALLĀH likes and is pleased with, abandoning relating all matters to HIM and not depending on HIM for everything. Diseases of the heart also include relying on other than ALLĀH, rejecting His decisions and doubting and ignoring HIS warnings and promises."

ALLĀH CREATED HIS CREATION IN DIFFERENT FORMS

Ibn al-Qayyim (may ALLĀH have mercy on him) said:

"ALLĀH, may HE be glorified, has created HIS creation in different forms.

So HE created the angels with reason and no desires, and their nature does not prompt them to behave in a way different from what they were created for. They were created from light that is free of any blameworthy elements or characteristics.

HE created the animals with desires and no reason,

and HE created the two races of the jinn and humankind and instilled in them reason and desires, and different natures according to the substance from which they are made, their physical shape and the way they are put together. These are the ones who are subjected to tests and trials, and may receive reward or punishment.

If it had been HIS will, HE would have made their natures and inclinations all the same, with no variation between them. But what HE, may HE be glorified, did is based on pure wisdom, as dictated by HIS lordship and divinity."

THE VIRTUE OF LEAVING BEHIND BENEFICIAL KNOWLEDGE

After citing numerous ahādīth regarding the excellence of knowledge and its benefits in both the life of this world as well as in the Hereafter; Ibn al-Qayyim (may ALLĀH have mercy on him) said:

"For indeed; we have mentioned two hundred proofs regarding the excellence of knowledge and of its people in a singular work.

Oh what it has by way of degree! – there is none higher than it; and it is a virtue – beyond which there is nothing more outstanding.

And its brightest gleam in radiance; is that during his lifetime; a person should be busied in some preoccupation of it.

Or that which is in his grave has become a fragmented remnant of a corpse and limb joints that are strewn. This; whilst the pages of his good deeds are continuously added to with good deeds; recorded in them at all times. Along with the good actions which are conferred to him – from where he could not have perceived.

Those – by ALLĀH – are noble deeds/qualities and are riches! And for this let those who aspire then compete.

That is the bounty of ALLĀH which HE bestows on whom HE wills. And ALLĀH is the possessor of great bounty."

THE SERVANT'S STEADINESS ON THE STRAIGHT PATH IN THIS WORLD WILL DETERMINE HIS MOVEMENT ALONG THE SIRAT

Ibn al-Qayyim (may ALLĀH have mercy on him) said:

"So whoever is guided in this abode to ALLĀH's straight path which HE sent HIS Messengers with and upon which HE revealed HIS Books, then he will be guided over there to the straight path (i.e. bridge) which will lead to Paradise – and HIS abode of reward.

Thus; on the basis of the steadiness of the step of the servant upon this path which ALLĀH has set up for HIS servants in this abode – likewise will be his steadiness upon the path (bridge) which is set up over the main part of the Hellfire.

On the basis of his movement along this path will determine his movement along that path. So from them will be those who will pass it like a lightening flash, and from them are those that will pass like the blink of an eye. Whilst others will pass like the wind, yet others will pass like the passing of riding animals, whilst some will pass running a jog. From them will be those that will walk at pace, and there will be those that will crawl – creeping along. From these will be the lacerated but would have made it safely, yet there are those of them that will be heaped into The Fire.

So let the servant reflect over his pace and movement along that path in light of his pace and movement upon this one. It is paralleled; like as one feather of an arrow matches another – a fitting recompense.

هَلْ تُجْزَوْنَ إِلَّا مَا كُنْتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ
Are you recompensed except with that which you used to do? (27:90)

Let him look also that the doubts and desires that cause him to stumble from his pace upon this straight path, for they are indeed the very hooks which will be present at either side of that path. Seizing him and causing him to stumble from continuing the march along it. For if they are in abundance here – and gain strength; then likewise will be the case there;

وَمَا رَبُّكَ بِظَلَّامٍ لِلْعَبِيدِ
And your Lord is not at all unjust to the servants. (41:46)

BEWARE OF CORRUPTING YOUR DEEDS

Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah (may ALLĀH have mercy on him) said:

"Beware of corrupting your deeds, for the only thing that corrupts your deeds is al-Riyā (showing off).

If not Riyā, then being impressed with yourself, until you think you are better than your ˹Muslim˺ brother. And perhaps you do not practice good deeds as much as he does, and perhaps he may be more cautious than you from what ALLĀH has prohibited, and has purer deeds than you.

If not being impressed with yourself, then beware of loving the praise of people, and their praise is that you love that they honor you for your deeds, and that they feel that you have nobility and status, or one of the many needs that you request from them . You should only seek the afterlife with your deeds, you do not want anything else from your deeds."

TYPES OF BEAUTY IN CLOTHING AND OUTWARD APPEARANCE

Ibn al-Qayyim (may ALLĀH have mercy on him) said:

"Beauty in clothing and outward appearance is of three types, one of which is commendable, one is blameworthy and one of which is neither.

The kind of beauty which is to be commended is that which is done for the sake of ALLĀH, to help one to obey ALLĀH and fulfill HIS commands, such as when the Prophet (ﷺ) made himself look beautiful (i.e. handsome) when meeting the delegations that came to him. This is like wearing armour or battle-dress when fighting, or wearing silk and showing off ˹in front of the enemy˺. This is commendable because it is done to make the word of ALLĀH supreme and to support HIS religion and annoy HIS enemies.

The blameworthy kind of beauty is that which is done for the sake of this world, for reasons of power, false pride and showing off, or to fulfill some ˹selfish˺ desires. This also includes cases where beauty is an end in itself for a person and is all he cares about. Many people have no other concern in life.

As for the kind of beauty which is neither commendable nor blameworthy, it is that which has nothing to do with either of the two purposes mentioned above (i.e., it is neither for the sake of ALLĀH nor for the sake of worldly purposes)."

RECTIFYING THE PAST AND PREPARING FOR THE FUTURE

Ibn al-Qayyim (may ALLĀH have mercy on him)said:

"What has passed is not remedied by grief and sadness, but rather by contentment, gratitude, patience, and faith in divine decree (al-Qadr), along with the servant's words: 'ALLĀH has decreed, and HE does what HE wills.'

Likewise, what will come in the future is not prevented by worry and stress. Rather, if he has a means to avert it, he should not be negligent in doing so. But if he has no means to avert it, he should not despair over it, but rather face it with patience, prepare himself appropriately for it, take the necessary measures, and equip himself with the proper provisions. He should shield himself with a strong fort of tawhid, reliance on ALLĀH, and humbling himself before the Lord, submitting to HIM and being content with HIM as the Lord in all matters."

THE MOST BENEFICIAL THING FOR THE HEART

Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah (may ALLĀH have mercy on him) said:

"In short, there is nothing more beneficial for the heart than reading the Qur'ān and with contemplation and reflection…

If people were to possess a realization of what recitation of the Qur'ān with contemplation contains, they would devote themselves to it at the expense of anything else.

When the person reads it with reflection and he comes across an āyah that he is in need of, for the cure of his heart, he repeats it, even if he does so a hundred times or the whole night. Hence, to recite a single āyah of the Qur'ān with contemplation and reflection is better than reciting the Qur'ān to completion without any contemplation or reflection.

It is also more beneficial for the heart and more conducive to attaining Īmān and tasting the sweetness of the Qur'ān."

FORGIVENESS IS ATTAINED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE LEVEL OF THE SERVANT'S TAWHĪD

Ibn al-Qayyim (may ALLĀH have mercy on him) said:

The greater a person's Tawhīd (affirmation of the Oneness of ALLĀH), the more complete will ALLĀH's forgiveness of him be. Whoever meets HIM not associating anything with HIM at all, HE will forgive him all his sins, no matter what they were, and he will not be punished for them.

We do not say that none of the people of Tawhīd will enter the Fire; rather many of them will enter it because of their sins and will receive punishment commensurate with their wrongdoing, then they will be brought out of it. There is no contradiction between the two matters for the one who properly understands what we have mentioned above.

Here we will explain further the greatness of this status, because it is essential that it be understood. It should be noted that the rays of Lā ilāha illallāh scatter the fog and clouds of sin in accordance with the strength or weakness of those rays. So this phrase has light, and those who believe in it vary with regard to the strength or weakness of that light, which no one knows except ALLĀH, may HE be Exalted. … The greater the light of these words, the more they will dispel specious arguments and whims and desires, until the individual reaches a state where he does not encounter any specious argument, whim, desire or sin, but these rays will dispel it. This is the state of one who is actually sincere in his Tawhīd and does not associate anything with ALLĀH."

MEANS OF ATTAINING HUMILITY

Imam Ibn al-Qayyim (may ALLĀH have mercy on him) mentioned:

"Humility comes from knowing about ALLĀH and HIS names and attributes, and HIS greatness, venerating HIM, loving HIM and being in awe of HIM; and also from knowing about oneself and one's faults, and weaknesses. From that may develop the attitude of humility, which means feeling helpless before ALLĀH, and being humble and compassionate towards HIS slaves, so that the person does not feel superior towards anyone, or think that he has any rights over anyone else; rather he thinks that others are better than him, and that their rights come before his. This is a characteristic that ALLĀH gives to those whom HE loves, honours and draws close to HIM."

MOST BENEFICIAL AND LEAST BENEFICIAL SLEEP

Ibn al-Qayyim (may ALLĀH have mercy on him) mentioned:

"The most beneficial of sleep is that which comes when the need for it is greatest. Sleeping at the beginning of the night is better than at the end, and sleeping in the middle of the day is better than sleeping at the beginning or end of the day. The closer sleep is to either the beginning or end of the day, the less beneficial it is and the more harmful, especially sleeping at 'Asr time, and sleeping at the beginning of the day, except in the case of one who has stayed up late. Among disliked kinds of sleep in their view is sleeping between Fajr prayer and sunrise, because that is a precious time. This time is of great benefit for those who are devoted to ALLĀH; even if they had been worshipping all night, they would not allow themselves to stop at that time until the sun has risen, because it is the beginning of the day, when provision comes down and is divided, and blessings are bestowed. That is the beginning of the day and the whole day depends on what happens during that time, no one should sleep at that time unless he is compelled to.

To sum up, the best and most beneficial of sleep is sleep during the first half of the night, and the last sixth, which is equivalent to eight hours. This is the best sleep according to doctors. Anything more or less than that will have a proportionately detrimental effect on the body, in their view.

Another kind of sleep that is of no benefit is sleeping straight after sunset, until the twilight has disappeared. The Messenger of ALLĀH (ﷺ) disliked that, therefore it is disliked according to Shari'ah and is naturally disliked. Just as sleeping too much leads to these problems, resisting and avoiding sleep will lead to other problems such as bad moods, muddled thinking, and exhaustion that prevents one from understanding and working properly, and it can lead to many fatal illnesses, whereby a person will not be able to think properly and will feel physically weak. Creation is based on balance and whoever adheres to moderation has achieved all goodness. And ALLĀH is the One Whose help we seek."

ALLĀH IS THE MOST MERCIFUL

Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah (may ALLĀH have mercy on him) said:

"Our Lord's Mercy and Knowledge encompass everything; HE is more compassionate to HIS servants than a mother to her child. HE knows where the benefit of a servant lies, but the servant because of his ignorance endeavours for what is harmful to him, impairs his honour and dignity, and takes himself away from his Creator while he thinks that he is bringing benefit and honour to him. This is the utmost injustice and ignorance and the man is unjust and ignorant. There are many who think that they are elevating themselves while they are debasing themselves, working to get some of the benefits and losing the wholesome. This is because they do not know their interests; they cause more harm to themselves than their enemies can do. They reduce their value, forfeit their rights, destroy their interests and sell their everlasting comfort and permanent joy for temporary joy mixed with discomfort. It is not surprising because they have lost their share of guidance and mercy.

It is to be noted that mercy is a quality that requires taking care of the interests of the people and bringing benefit to them no matter how difficult it is. This is the real mercy. The most beneficent person is that who suffers hardship in bringing benefit to others and removing harm from them. The mercy of the father to the child requires that he force him to learn even if it leads to beating him. He also should keep him away from such desirable matters which at the end may cause him harm. If a father neglects this, he is not merciful to his child though he may feel that he is very kind to his son. This is why the Most Merciful afflicts HIS servants with various tribulations because HE knows where his interest lies. HIS afflictions are the result of HIS mercy, but the servant out of his ignorance accuses his Lord and does not understand HIS bounty and grace"

INVOCATION OF PEACE AND BLESSINGS UPON THE PROPHET ﷺ IN ABUNDANCE ON FRIDAY

Ibnul-Qayyim al-Jawziyyah (may ALLĀH have mercy on him) said:

"It is preferred to pray to ALLĀH to send blessings on the Prophet ﷺ during the day and night of Jumuah, as the Prophet ﷺ said, 'Invoke many prayers upon me during the day and night of Friday.'

"The Messenger of ALLĀH ﷺ is the leader of mankind, and Jumu'ah is the best of the days of the week. Prayers upon him during that day are a privilege ˹he deserves˺, which belongs to no one other than him.

"This act also has another wisdom, and that is that all of the good that has passed onto this Ummah, in this life and the Hereafter, has passed through him. ALLĀH has gathered the good of this life and the next life for this Ummah, and the greatest honor and success will be granted to them on Friday. On that day, they will be granted their houses and palaces in Paradise and that is the day they will be given more when they enter Paradise. It is a day of celebration for them in this life. It is also a day in which ALLĀH fulfills their needs and answers their prayers and requests in this world. They are aware of all of that and are able to attain it because of the Prophet ﷺ and it is through him ˹that they received these teachings˺; therefore, in gratitude and appreciation for the great blessings we received through him, we should send many prayers upon him during the day and night of Jumu'ah."

THE WISDOM OF ALLĀH IN COMMANDING AND PROHIBITING THE SERVANT

Ibn Al-Qayyim (may ALLĀH have mercy on him) said:

"Without the divine command, the creation of man would have been in vain and futile, and ALLĀH is exalted above that, and HE has absolved HIMSELF from it, just as HE has absolved HIMSELF from defects and deficiencies...

It is known that leaving man like animals, neglected and idle, is contrary to wisdom; for he was created for the purpose of his perfection, and his perfection is to be knowledgeable of his Lord, loving HIM, and standing in HIS servitude. ALLĀH the Exalted says:

وَمَا خَلَقۡتُ ٱلۡجِنَّ وَٱلۡإِنسَ إِلَّا لِیَعۡبُدُونِ
And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship ME. (51:56)
...

The basis of the divine command is Islam, Īmān (faith), and Ihsān (excellence), and they all go back to being grateful for all blessings, small and great, from HIM, and to glorify and revere HIM and to deal with HIM in a manner befitting HIS Majesty. So HIS favors are mentioned, and HE is thanked and not denied, and HE is obeyed and not disobeyed, and HE is remembered and not forgotten.

This, along with the divine command including the adornment of the servant with every beautiful character, and his performance of every good deed and correct speech, and his avoidance of every bad character, and abstaining from every ugly act and false statement. Thus, his command includes the noblest of morals, the beauties of actions, the truth of speech, and benevolence to creation, and perfecting himself with all kinds of perfections, and shunning their opposites, and purifying himself from them, while exposing him to the great and everlasting reward, and the companionship of his Lord in the abode of eternity.

So which of the two matters is more befitting of wisdom? This, or sending him neglected like horses, mules, and donkeys, eating, drinking, and mating like animals?!"

THE CATEGORIES OF PEOPLE REGARDING THE DUNYĀ (WORDLY LIFE)

Shaykhul-Islam Ibn al-Qayyim (may ALLĀH have mercy on him) said:

"The people are of two categories:

● The first category is those who rectify and fear ALLĀH. Thus, he uses the dunya to fear ALLĀH and rectify his situation, and it does not urge him to engross himself completely in it or to be greedy toward it. He does not take from it that which is not permissible.

● The second category is those who do not fear ALLĀH or rectify their situation. Thus, his importance and efforts are put toward amassing the worldly life. Therefore, he is like the person who eats but does not become full. And this is from the most excellent examples.

The purpose of eating is to maintain good health and strength, so the person eats according to his needs. The intent of eating is not the food itself or the desires of the individual. The person who places his appetite above the purpose will never be satisfied. For this reason, Imam Ahmad said, 'A small amount of the worldly life suffices while a large portion of it does not suffice.'

The people differ greatly concerning this matter of fearing ALLĀH, rectifying their condition and eating without satisfaction. The differing of two people in this affair is like two stars, one rising in the East and the other setting in the West."

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE NAME (ISM), NICKNAME (LAQAB) AND COGNOMEN (KUNYAH)

Ibn al-Qayyim (may ALLĀH have mercy on him) said:

"These three are similar in their purpose to identify the person. However, they differ in another aspect: whether they indicate praise, slander or neither.

If it indicated either, then it is a nickname (laqab). It is mostly used in slander. That is why ALLĀH, the Exalted, said:

وَلَا تَنَابَزُوا بِالْأَلْقَابِ
And do not call each other by ˹offensive˺ nicknames (alqāb).(49:11)

No one disputes the prohibition of nicknaming a person with something he hates, whether that trait was actually true or not. However, if the person is known by that nickname, such as Al-A'mash (The Blear-eyed): Al-Ashtar (The Cleft-lipped): Al-Asam (The Deaf) and Al-A'raj (The Limping), it has been frequently used by Scholars of the old and modern days, and Imam Ahmad was lenient in that regard...

If it indicated neither praise nor slander, then if it is begun with 'Abu' or 'Umm', then it is a cognomen (kunyah), such as 'Abū Such-and-such', and 'Umm so-and-so'. However, if it is not begun with either, then it is a name, such as Zayd and 'Amr. This is what the Arabs knew, and this is how they addressed each other."

TREATMENT USING SŪRAH AL-FATIḤAH

Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah (may ALLĀH have mercy on him) mentions while commenting on the hadith of Abū Sa'id al-Khudri, narrated by Al-Bukhārī (5737), regarding the chief of the village who was stung by a scorpion and later cured through the recitation of Sūrah al-Fatihah:

"As it is evident, this remedy (Sūrah al-Fātiḥah) had an effect on this illness and eradicated it as if it never existed. It is the simplest and easiest of cures, and if the slave correctly medicates with al-Fātiḥah, he would see its astonishing effects as a cure.

I spent some time in the city of Makkah whilst frequently experiencing illness that I could not find a doctor for nor a remedy, so I would treat myself with the opening chapter of the Qur'an, and I would find that it had an amazing effect. So I would prescribe this to those who complain of an ailment and many of them would be swiftly cured."

He (may ALLĀH have mercy on him) also said:

"I used to suffer from severe pains, to the extent that I could hardly move, during tawaf and at other times. So I began to recite Al-Fatihah into my hands and wipe them over the site of the pain, and it was as if the pain was a small stone that dropped off. I tried that many times. And I used to take a cup of Zamzam water and recite Al-Fatihah over it several times and then drink it, and I found a great deal of benefit and strength in that, that I never got from any other medicine."

WE HAVE NOT APPRAISED FĀTIHAH WITH DUE APPRAISAL

Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah (may ALLĀH have mercy on him) stated further:

By ALLĀH! The Fātihah is much more important than what we have emphasized. The slave who holds fast to the Fātihah, comprehends it in the proper manner, relies on it as a perfect remedy, a shield, an immunity, and as a light of guidance. He understands its implications as they should be understood. It is he who will not fall into an innovation, or Shirk, or catch an ailment in the heart except briefly!"

The Fātihah is the ultimate key for the treasures of the earth and Paradise, as well. But not every person knows how to use this key so as to have access to these treasures. If those who seek these treasures were able to uncover the secrets of this chapter ˹in the Qur'an˺ and acquire knowledge of its implications, they would add teeth to the key and would have easy access to these treasures.

We are certain of the statements that we have asserted herein because they are true. ALLĀH has Perfect Wisdom in hiding the secrets ˹of Al-Fātihah˺ from the hearts of the majority of mankind, just as HE has a perfect Wisdom in hiding the treasures of the earth from them."

Abu Hurayrah said: "My close friend (the Prophet ﷺ) advised me to do three things which I will not give up until I die: fasting three days of each month, praying Duha, and sleeping after Witr." {Muslim}
