📚. well as an artist myself, i genuinely agree with this. and i think one thing that gets overlooked in this discussion is that art doesnt exist in a vacuum. it exists in a world where artists have influence, where their work reaches people, shapes perspectives, and sometimes reinforces ideas that have real consequences outside the art itself.

i get the argument that appreciating someones work doesnt automatically mean agreeing with everything they do in their personal life. obviously. but i feel like that argument sometimes gets used to shut down any conversation about the artists responsibility for what they create, what they stand for, and the influence they continue to have.

because lets be real, art is not just something you make and throw into the world without any connection to yourself. even when its fictional, even when its not explicitly political, even when youre not intentionally trying to make a statement, your perspective still informs what you create. your choices, your biases, the things you choose to portray, the things you choose to leave out, the way you frame certain characters or situations. all of those things mean something, whether you intend them to or not.

and no, i dont think this means we should erase every work made by a terrible person from history. like mentioned here too, theres a difference between acknowledging a works artistic or historical significance and actively choosing to keep consuming, promoting, and celebrating it. nobody is saying we should pretend these works never existed. we are talking about what we choose to give our attention to, what we give a platform to, and what we are willing to overlook in the process.

also, i think the conversation gets too focused on whether the artist receives money from us. financial support and cultural relevance are different. the fact that someone isnt getting your money doesnt automatically mean youre not contributing to their influence. and im not saying that every single person who watches a movie or reads a book is personally responsible for everything its creator has done. that would be ridiculous lol. im saying that consumption is not always as detached from its consequences as we would like to believe.

as someone who creates things too, i honestly think its a little concerning when we want all the freedom to express ourselves through our art but suddenly want to treat that art as completely disconnected from who we are when the conversation gets uncomfortable. if our work can carry our ideas, reach people, move them, and change the way they see things, then why should we act like the person behind it becomes irrelevant the moment the work is finished?

you can acknowledge someones talent without feeling obligated to keep supporting them. you can recognize a masterpiece without making excuses for its creator. and you can appreciate art while still asking yourself what, or who, youre helping keep relevant by consuming it.

to me, thats not about being morally superior or policing what other people watch. its about being conscious of the things we choose to engage with. because art matters. and precisely because it matters, i think we should care about the people making it, too.

📚. I don’t really see the point of “feminine energy” or “masculine energy” because these concepts often repackage traditional gender stereotypes in spiritual language. They provide a convenient framework for associating rationality, strength, and aggression with men, while linking emotionality, weakness, and submissiveness with women, but what evidence actually justifies these associations?
Human personality is far too diverse to be reduced to a gendered binary, and even if empirical evidence suggests average differences between groups, those differences do not automatically establish what is morally better or how people ought to behave. Furthermore, there is an element of circular reasoning when a behavior is labeled as inherently masculine and then explained by appealing to masculine energy, because a label alone does not provide a causal explanation. If these concepts are presented as scientific claims, particularly when the term “energy” is used to imply an objective mechanism, they should be supported by empirical evidence rather than subjective interpretations. Otherwise, the terminology risks giving an illusion of scientific legitimacy to claims that have not been adequately substantiated. The more fundamental problem is that these concepts can turn socially constructed expectations into supposedly objective truths about human nature. When assertiveness is repeatedly framed as masculine and submissiveness as feminine, people may begin to treat these associations as inherent characteristics rather than culturally reinforced expectations. This creates a self-reinforcing cycle in which people are encouraged to behave according to gender stereotypes, and their behavior is then used to validate those same stereotypes. The fact that a pattern is socially common does not prove that it is biologically inevitable, psychologically universal, or morally desirable. In my opinion, a woman can be assertive without being any less feminine, just as a man can be gentle without being any less masculine, because personality traits do not inherently belong to one gender. Gender norms and expectations are shaped by cultural and social contexts, and they should not be mistaken for fixed, universal laws governing human behavior.
